FSUE "RIHTOP" FMBA Russia 

The Research Institute of Hygiene, Toxicology and Occupational Pathology (RIHTOP) is ranked among research establishments that are supervised by Federal Directorate of Medical, Biological and Extreme Problems at Russian Ministry of Health (Presidential Decree No. 1304 of 11 October 2004).

Activities of the RIHTOP:

  • scientific activity in conformity with the RIHTOP objectives;
  • business work;
  • external economic activity that is not in conflict with character of the Institute activities.

    On June 28-29, 2010

    

    On June 28-29, 2010 Prof. Boris N. Filatov, RIHTOP Director, and Marina N. Ignatenko, Head of International Project Department have participated in International Conference “Synthetic Biology and Nanobiotechnology Risk and Response Assessment”. The conference was organized by United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) within the EU Program on Biosafety and Biosecurity and took place in Palase of Nations (Geneve, Switzerland). On the conference technology risks scenarios in the aforementioned fields were assessed and possible response measures in light of the challenges identified were evaluated.


    On June 9, 2010

    

    Alexander Y. Pocheptsov, Head of Pathomorphology Laboratory, participated in a workshop on Nanotoxicology and the Safety Standard organized by the National Association of Nanoindustry and Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation. The workshop was held on June 9, 2010 in Moscow. More than 60 scientists and specialists from the institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, higher education institutions, and scientific centers participated in the workshop, as well as representatives from industry. The various aspects of nanotechnologies safety and the safe application of those were discussed in the workshop.


    On June 2-3, 2010

    

    A Scientific Symposium on Topical Issues of Modern Toxicology coincided with the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the Institute of Toxicology of FMBA Russia was held in Saint Petersburg on 2-3 June 2010. Boris N. Filatov, RIHTOP’s Director, participated in the Symposium, in collaboration with Russia’s leading toxicologists and heads of the major toxicology centers. A current issue of the Toksigologichesky Vestnik Journal in which the state of the art and key directions of science development were highlighted was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the Institute of Toxicology (No. 3, May/June 2010). An article by RIHTOP’s members was also published in this issue (http://www.rpohv.ru; http://www.rpohbv.ru).


    On May 27-28, 2010

    

    On 27 – 28 May 2010, All-Russian Research and Practice Conference on Chemical Safety of the Russian Federation in the Current Context was held in Saint Petersburg.The organizers of the Conference included:
  • FSUE Research Institute of Hygiene, Toxicology and Occupational Pathology of FMBA Russia (RIHTOP);
  • Federal State Institution of Science Institute of Toxicology of FMBA Russia;
  • S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy;
  • Federal State Institution State Research Institute of Military Medicine of the Ministry of Defense.
A wide range of issues as well as crucial problems of chemical safety in the Russian Federation were discussed in the Conference. RIHTOP presented 17 report abstracts published in the following sections of Proceedings of the Conference: Methodology; Methodological and Tool Support for Medical and Hygienic Research; Experimental Toxicology and Pharmacotherapy; Medical and Hygienic and Environmental Aspects of Works at Chemically Hazardous Facilities. The following RIHTOP staff members participated in the Conference: Valentina V. Klauchek, Deputy Director for Science; Lyudmila P. Tochilkina, Head of Drug Safety Laboratory; Nikolay G. Britanov, Head of Occupational Hygiene Laboratory; Irina G. Frolova and Yelena A. Kuznetsova, research assistants of Occupational Toxicology Laboratory.


    On May 23, 2010

    

    An article by Boris N. Filatov, RIHTOP’s Director, on “Toxicology as a special medicine” was published in Journal of Medicine Target Projects (No. 5, 2010, pp. 32 - 33). The article shows that it is currently necessary to pay careful attention to nanotechnologies as potential sources of unforeseen human hazards.The article is available at link. The Journal of Medicine Target Projects is a specialized magazine reporting on medicine which publishes interviews, reviews, analytical articles, and comments on problems arising in the course of the implementation of federal and regional target programs, Health priority national project, and topical issues of the national health policy of the Russian Federation.


    On May 16-22, 2010

    

    Dr. Elena V. Bulanova, Head of RIHTOP Scientific and Organizational Department and Tatiana A. Khvorostova, Programmer of RIHTOP IT Laboratory have participated in the Technical Workshop on ISTC Project titled “Unified method of state space modeling of biological system” which took place in U.S. Environment Protection Agency, Washington DC, USA. On the meeting the recent results of the project were discussed and further works were planned.
